Your grid connection and a large share of your grid charges are based on your highest peak — that single fifteen-minute window when everything ran at once. The rest of the month barely matters for those costs. Lower your peak and you directly lower your fixed costs, and free up room on your connection.

How it works

Peak shaving flattens your peak moments by adding power or shifting demand at exactly the right time. A battery discharges during the peak and charges in the valleys. Controllable loads — cooling, charging points, thermal processes — shift by a few minutes or a quarter of an hour, without your process noticing a thing.

The skill is not in the principle but in the timing. You only see a peak after the fact, unless you forecast it. That is why serious peak management runs on forecasts of your consumption and generation, quarter hour by quarter hour, and a system that adjusts live when the day turns out differently than expected.

What it delivers

Three effects, in order of visibility:

• Lower grid charges: your contracted capacity can come down, or you avoid penalties for exceeding it.
